Meta’s AI agent app Muse crossed 5 million downloads and 3 million weekly active users within 22 days of its launch. Social Media Today reported the milestone on October 1, 2026, noting that only 23 apps in history reached 5 million downloads that quickly.
Meta launched Muse on September 8, 2026, initially in the United States. The app climbed to the No. 2 spot on Apple’s App Store within two days. It then expanded to Canada, where it reached No. 1 on Apple’s free iPhone chart. According to iPhone in Canada, Muse hit 2.8 million total installs across both platforms in its first 12 days. That pace outstripped ChatGPT, which saw 1.3 million downloads across the same two countries in a comparable period.
Unlike standard AI chatbots, Muse works as a personal AI agent. It identifies cost savings, manages subscriptions, cancels unnecessary payments, and alerts users to financial opportunities. The app goes beyond question-and-answer interactions. Instead, it completes tasks on the user’s behalf across connected services.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg outlined the monetization plan for Muse. He said Meta will offer the app for free and eventually generate profit by taking a small fee from transactions. Currently, the app runs a promotional offer with 1 billion free tokens for new users. The app also connects with Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp for deeper integration.
However, privacy remains a key concern. TechCrunch noted that Meta launched Muse only days after agreeing to an $18 billion multistate settlement over social media harms. The app requires users to share personal financial data with Meta to function effectively. That trust barrier could slow adoption among privacy-conscious users.
