Air passengers in Pakistan may soon have to pay more for tickets after the price of jet fuel rose by more than Rs 9 per litre in three days, pushing up airlines’ operating costs.
Jet fuel now costs Rs 355.52 per litre. Between October 1 and October 3, the price increased by a total of Rs 9.05 per litre, a rise of about 2.61 percent over the period.
Fuel is one of the largest expenses for airlines, and the sharp increase has added to their operational costs. Aviation sources said airlines have signalled that they may raise ticket prices to offset the extra burden.
No airline has yet announced a revised fare structure. If the price of jet fuel continues to rise, any fare increase is likely to affect both domestic and international routes.
