TikTok has launched two new commerce features: an AI shopping assistant and one-click checkout. The company announced both on October 5 as part of its push to keep purchases entirely inside its app.
The AI shopping assistant is a conversational agent that helps users discover and buy products. It understands context, remembers user preferences, and provides real-time guidance on product details, sizing, shipping, and availability.
Additionally, it can walk users through the entire purchase process without leaving the app. The tool effectively keeps shoppers within TikTok’s ecosystem instead of directing them to external AI tools like ChatGPT or Google Gemini for product recommendations.
Meanwhile, the one-click checkout feature lets users buy products directly from brands while scrolling their For You feed. Previously, TikTok Shop required users to navigate to a separate marketplace section. Now, however, transactions can happen directly from the algorithm-driven main feed. As a result, the path from product discovery to completed purchase shrinks to a single tap.
TikTok has partnered with Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza, and Stripe to power these features. These integrations connect brands’ existing commerce infrastructure directly into TikTok’s checkout flow. Consequently, merchants already using these platforms can plug into TikTok’s new system without rebuilding their payment setup.
The timing reflects TikTok Shop’s rapid growth. According to a Momentum Works report published in February 2026, TikTok Shop generated $15.1 billion in US gross merchandise value during 2025. That figure represented a 68% increase from $9 billion in 2024.
Globally, TikTok Shop reached $64.3 billion in GMV across 16 markets, with Southeast Asia contributing $45.6 billion alone. Furthermore, eMarketer estimates TikTok now accounts for roughly 18% of all US social commerce.
TikTok’s own Economic Impact Report claims the platform generated $81 billion in GDP for US businesses. It also states that 54 million Americans purchased products after watching TikTok videos. These numbers explain why the company is investing heavily in keeping the entire shopping journey on-platform.
The broader social commerce market continues to expand as well. US social commerce reached approximately $107 billion in 2025, up from $39.5 billion in 2021. TikTok Shop launched in the US in September 2023 and has already become the dominant player in the space. With the new AI assistant and streamlined checkout, TikTok is betting that conversational commerce will drive its next phase of growth.
