Pakistan and the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) have discussed expanding bilateral trade and investment, strengthening private-sector cooperation and exploring opportunities to upgrade Pakistan’s oil refineries.
The discussions took place during a meeting between Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb and SFD Chief Executive Officer Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Marshad on the sidelines of the World Bank Group–IMF Annual Meetings 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand.
During the meeting, Aurangzeb acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s longstanding support for Pakistan and offered condolences over recent incidents in the Kingdom that resulted in loss of life.
The finance minister also highlighted improvements in Pakistan’s macroeconomic position and its renewed access to international capital markets. Both sides reviewed progress on a bilateral investment protection agreement and explored ways to deepen economic and investment ties.
The two parties also reviewed development projects supported by the SFD in Pakistan and expressed satisfaction with their implementation. They agreed on the importance of identifying additional projects to broaden development cooperation.
The SFD reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Pakistan within the scope of its mandate, while both sides explored opportunities to strengthen economic collaboration and encourage further investment.
