Victims of an alleged financial fraud by a private bank manager in Gujrat have reportedly occupied the house of the accused, who is believed to have fled the country.
The manager’s father, Muhammad Akram, filed a complaint with Gujrat Saddar police, stating that unidentified suspects forcibly occupied his family’s 16-marla house in River Garden Housing Society while the family was away. He also submitted the property’s ownership documents.
A Gujrat Police spokesperson said senior officials are investigating the matter. Police have sealed the house.
Some residents of the housing society said several affected parties tried to take over the property. They said a quarrel broke out among them at the scene when some attempted to take the accused manager’s car.
The manager is accused of defrauding account holders at his branch by offering them investment opportunities. Reports suggest he took between Rs800 million and Rs1 billion from the victims.
Local sources said the manager first took two weeks of leave from the bank and was admitted to a private hospital before leaving for Saudi Arabia. Sources added that he also holds a US visa and may have travelled there, as his other family members have returned from Saudi Arabia.
Some of his colleagues have also been accused of aiding him. The alleged racket involved facilitating student visas and preparing bank statements. Bank officials are alleged to have used the funds of certain account holders to produce the statements in return for payment.
