Pakistan Post has ordered staff across Punjab to prevent the booking, transport and delivery of kites and prohibited kite strings through postal, courier and online delivery networks ahead of Basant 2027. Employees must report suspected violations to the police immediately.
The order follows a high-level meeting convened by the Punjab government to review Basant 2027 arrangements. Representatives of government departments, law enforcement agencies, Pakistan Post and courier companies attended. Participants agreed to tighten surveillance and act promptly against violations to protect human lives.
In a letter, the Postmaster General, Central Punjab Circle, instructed officials to monitor the movement, storage, sale and distribution of kites and dangerous strings, particularly metallic wires and metal-coated strings.
The letter states that transporting and delivering kites and kite strings is prohibited in Punjab through all channels, including postal services, courier companies and online delivery platforms. Relevant offices and staff must take effective measures to stop attempts to book, dispatch or deliver such materials.
Suspected prohibited items must be reported to the nearest police station without delay. Transport operators, courier companies and online delivery services have been urged to help identify and report such consignments.
The letter also calls for dedicated WhatsApp groups among the relevant departments to exchange information in a timely manner and enable swift action. Pakistan Post staff must identify individuals attempting to book or dispatch prohibited materials and report them to the relevant authorities, including the office of the deputy commissioner.
The letter describes the protection of human lives as a shared responsibility. It urges government departments, law enforcement agencies, transport operators, courier services, online delivery platforms and the public to help stop the circulation and transportation of dangerous or unauthorised kite-flying materials.
