The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) plans to support at least 20 women-led technology startups annually under a proposed initiative aimed at promoting female entrepreneurship and strengthening women’s participation in Pakistan’s digital economy.
The initiative, called the Women Innovation and Startup Empowerment (WISE) Lab, is designed to help women entrepreneurs develop business ideas, improve commercial viability and establish sustainable technology-based ventures.
Under the plan, the ministry also aims to provide digital skills training to 200 female micro-entrepreneurs every year. The training will focus on helping women use digital tools and technology-based solutions to improve business operations, reach more customers and access online marketplaces.
The proposed measures seek to address barriers that limit women’s participation in technology entrepreneurship, including gaps in digital skills, limited access to business networks and a lack of institutional support.
Through startup assistance and targeted training, the ministry aims to help women transform their technical knowledge and business ideas into commercially viable enterprises.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to increase women’s participation in emerging technologies and technology-driven economic activities. By supporting startups and small businesses, the programme aims to create more opportunities for women entrepreneurs and contribute to the growth of Pakistan’s digital economy.
