Drivers who commit any of 21 serious traffic violations in Lahore will now face criminal cases instead of challans, City Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi announced on Thursday.
According to media reports, the violations include the illegal use of police-style flasher lights, unauthorised blue lights and green number plates.
Wrong-way driving and tampering with number plates, whether by printing on them, altering them or concealing the identity of a vehicle, will also result in the registration of First Information Reports (FIRs).
Road blocking, reckless driving and negligent driving fall under the same category, the CTO said. Speeding, dangerous zigzag driving and drifting will likewise lead to cases against offenders, as will disorderly conduct and extremely careless driving.
Shirazi said the measure targets serious violations that put human lives at risk, adding that offenders in these categories will no longer be let off with a fine.
