The Sindh government has approved a new weekly schedule under which all government and private schools across the province will remain closed on both Saturdays and Sundays.
The decision was approved by CM Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday. Under the revised policy, schools will extend daily teaching hours by one hour to compensate for the additional weekly holiday.
The provincial government said the revised timetable is intended to ensure that schools complete the prescribed curriculum without disrupting academic activities or the learning of students.
Authorities said the measure is part of the cost-saving efforts of the government and aims to improve the efficient use of available public resources while maintaining educational standards across the province.
The decision reverses a policy introduced after the summer vacation, when schools across Sindh resumed classes on August 1 under a six-day working week that required attendance from Monday to Saturday.
Under the new arrangement, schools will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays, while daily teaching hours will be extended by one hour to make up for the reduction in weekly classroom time.
The provincial government said the revised timetable is designed to ensure completion of the academic curriculum without affecting students’ learning.
