The United States actively encourages its technology companies to invest in Pakistan’s agriculture sector. The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad recently highlighted massive commercial opportunities. Consequently, officials want American businesses to explore export and investment prospects.
This push happened during a recent webinar. The Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) organized this event. Furthermore, they collaborated with the U.S. Embassy, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the Government of Pakistan.
Modernizing Farming & Agriculture Sector with American Tech
During the event, Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker emphasized the potential of American technologies. Specifically, she noted that U.S. expertise can modernize local farming. This modernization will subsequently create commercial wins for both nations.
Currently, agriculture contributes nearly one-quarter of Pakistan’s gross domestic product. Additionally, the sector supports millions of livelihoods across the country. To boost productivity and resource efficiency, American companies can introduce precision agriculture equipment and advanced irrigation systems. Moreover, they can provide digital farm management tools and cold chain logistics.
Policy Shifts & Billion-Dollar Trade
Bilateral agricultural trade between the two countries already remains strong. In fact, U.S. exports of agricultural and related products to Pakistan exceeded $1.5 billion in 2025.
Meanwhile, Pakistani officials at the webinar highlighted important regulatory and policy changes. These new policies explicitly aim to facilitate greater imports of U.S. products, including soybeans, cotton, and planting seeds. Furthermore, the government strongly encourages foreign investment in specific operational areas. These target areas include farm mechanization, controlled atmosphere storage, and food processing. Additionally, Pakistan welcomes investments in seed development and biotechnology.
Upcoming October Trade Mission
Looking ahead, both countries plan to rapidly deepen these business ties. The event officially previewed the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Certified Agricultural Technologies Trade Mission to Pakistan. Officials have scheduled this mission for October 26 to October 30, 2026.
Ultimately, Baker invited American businesses to explore Pakistan’s agricultural technology and food processing sectors. She also reaffirmed the embassy’s strict commitment to supporting U.S. companies that want to expand their presence in the country.
