ISLAMABAD: The National Computer Emergency Response Team (nCERT) has released an urgent advisory warning users about a phishing campaign impersonating PKCERT. This deceptive campaign distributes fraudulent emails that claim to be official security advisories regarding a critical update identified as CERT-PK-2025-004. These emails are designed to mislead recipients into downloading malicious content under the guise of a security patch. According to nCERT, the phishing emails include forged signatures from the Director General of National CERT to appear authentic. A PDF attachment containing harmful phishing links is embedded, and the sender’s email address is not from a legitimate government domain. The advisory warns that engaging with the fake patch can lead to serious consequences such as malware infections, data breaches, credential and identity theft, and even financial loss. Victims may unknowingly expose sensitive data, making themselves and their organizations vulnerable to further cyberattacks. The nCERT strongly advises users to remain cautious—avoid clicking unknown links or downloading unsolicited files, verify the source of any email claiming to be from CERT authorities, report suspicious activity directly to NCERT, and enable multi-factor authentication on all accounts.
