The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is the first foldable tablet to receive Samsung's One UI 7 upgrade, which has been available on other devices like the Pixel Fold and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The update introduces two new capabilities that are already present on other foldables. Samsung may have started the foldable game, but it hasn't exactly been at the forefront of innovation. Not only that, but other foldable manufacturers, including Android, have developed software features that Samsung has not yet made available to all of its customers. One of these ideas is to make it easy to "swipe to continue" apps on the outside screen. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold (and the original Pixel Fold) brought this capability to Android last year, while it had been available in foldables from other brands for a while, like Oppo and Honour. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 now includes Samsung's "swipe to continue" feature, which lets you keep apps open on the internal display even when you close the device—all you have to do is swipe up on the lock screen. Beyond that, the auto-hiding taskbar is now supported on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 with the One UI 7 beta. The static taskbar disappeared in Android 13 and was replaced with one that appears with a half-swipe, similar to the iPad's taskbar. This was an update made by Google to Android's interface. With the Android 13 and 14 updates, Samsung never made this change. Instead, it stuck with a static taskbar that takes up the screen room. Google has changed its mind and now lets people choose that, but Samsung's way was all or nothing, which was not good. You can disable the taskbar completely or make it take up a specific area of the screen. Samsung has confirmed that the entire One UI 7 update will begin in April 2025, thus these enhancements won't be available to all Fold users until then.
