The Balochistan government launched the Green Bus Service in Turbat on Sunday, making it the second city in the province to receive this modern public transport facility.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti described the Green Bus Service as a special gift for the residents of Turbat, aimed at improving their daily travel experience.
Initially, four buses will operate across Turbat town on an 18.4 kilometre route, serving 18 designated bus stops and carrying approximately 4,500 passengers each day, according to the provincial government.
The chief minister also announced plans to introduce the Pink Bus Service next year, exclusively for women, as part of efforts to provide safe, convenient, and dedicated public transport facilities in Turbat.
Several provincial officials, including Senior Minister Mir Zahoor Ahmed Buledi, Finance Minister Shoaib Nosherwani, and Revenue Minister Asim Kurd attended the ceremony.
In July 2023, a fleet of eight eco-friendly Green Buses was launched in Quetta, marking the city’s first inter-city public transport service under a public-private partnership.
The buses initially operated on an 18.7-kilometre route between key city points, with 18 designated stops, providing air-conditioned travel, affordable fares, and seating reserved for women and disabled passengers.
Each bus has a capacity of thirty passengers, ensuring comfortable travel for daily commuters, while the service aims to gradually expand to cover more routes across the provincial capital.
