The Punjab government’s housing initiative, ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar,’ has disbursed interest-free loans totaling over Rs. 8.5 billion to more than 9,000 individuals, according to officials. The program was led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

The initiative received over 400,000 applications through its official portal. In Phase I, 5,000 loans were distributed, with many homes nearing completion. Phase II saw the provision of 3,000 additional loans, and construction has commenced on these projects.

Application Verification and Program Goals

Three independent microfinance institutions are responsible for verifying each application to ensure transparency and fairness. The program aims to construct 100,000 homes within the first year and 500,000 homes over the next five years.

Borrowers can receive loans up to Rs. 1.5 million, repayable over nine years with monthly installments of Rs. 14,000, covering only the principal amount.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized that loan allocations are based solely on merit, with no room for recommendations or favoritism. She expressed her vision for every resident of Punjab to have their own home and shared her personal satisfaction with the program’s progress.

Applicants can find more information and submit applications through the program’s portal. A dedicated helpline is also available at 0800-09100 for assistance.
