Apple has rolled out iOS 26.2.1 and iPadOS 26.2.1, delivering a small update with one notable addition. While the version numbers suggest a routine release, the update quietly introduces support for Apple’s newly announced second-generation AirTag.

The new AirTag arrives with several hardware upgrades. Most importantly, it features a new Ultra Wideband chip that powers Precision Finding. As a result, users can now locate their items from 50% farther away. This makes tracking lost bags, keys, or wallets more accurate and convenient.

In addition, Apple has improved connectivity and sound. The second-generation AirTag includes an upgraded Bluetooth chip with expanded range. It also comes with a speaker that is 50% louder than before. These changes aim to make item tracking faster and easier in everyday use.

With iOS 26.2.1 and iPadOS 26.2.1 installed, users can fully control the new AirTag on supported iPhones and iPads. The update ensures seamless compatibility with the latest tracker right from launch day.

Beyond AirTag support, the software update also includes unspecified bug fixes. Apple confirmed these improvements in its official release notes, although it did not share detailed information.

Users can download the update by heading to Settings, then General, and selecting Software Update on an eligible device. The installation process starts immediately once the update becomes available.
