Volkswagen is bringing car control to your wrist. The automaker updated its myVW app to work with smartwatches, aiming to make daily driving tasks simpler. The new feature targets both traditional cars and Volkswagen’s growing lineup of electric vehicles.
The myVW app now supports Apple watchOS and Google’s Wear OS, covering most smartwatch users. Drivers can control key vehicle functions directly from their watch. The update works with Volkswagen models from 2020 onward.
For EV owners, the app offers particularly useful tools. Users can check battery charge levels at a glance, start or stop charging remotely, and precondition the cabin while the car remains plugged in. These features preserve battery range and simplify managing charging schedules, whether at home or at public stations.
Owners of gasoline-powered vehicles also gain convenience. The smartwatch app allows them to remotely start or stop the engine, monitor fuel levels, lock or unlock doors, and use the “Honk and Flash” feature to locate the car in crowded areas.
Accessing these features requires several steps. Drivers must download the myVW app, register their car in the virtual garage, accept terms for both myVW and myVW+, and subscribe to a paid plan. The plans, named “Remote Access” and “VW Vehicle Insights,” start at €8.53 per month, though new car buyers may get limited trial access.
Volkswagen said the smartwatch app encourages regular engagement with its digital ecosystem. The company aims to build loyalty while moving toward “connected mobility,” integrating cars into a larger digital lifestyle. By putting vehicle control on a watch, Volkswagen ensures drivers can access it quickly and frequently.
