Apple’s Online Store Now Lets You Customize Your Mac Step by Step

Published by

Apple has redesigned the way people configure a Mac on its website. The change, first reported by MacWorld, replaces the older system of choosing between preset models with a step-by-step customization process.

Previously, buyers had to select from several prebuilt configurations. Now, Apple allows users to choose each specification individually. The overall difference may seem small. However, the new layout gives customers more direct control over what goes into their machine.

Shoppers can now select the color, display, chip, memory, storage, and even the power adapter separately. This approach reduces the need to compromise on certain features. Instead of adjusting to a fixed bundle, users build the Mac according to their needs.

Apple has also added the option to install professional apps at checkout. Customers can add Final Cut Pro or Logic Pro before the device ships. This saves time and makes the setup process smoother, especially for creators.

The timing of this update is notable. According to MacWorld, Apple is rumored to be preparing upgraded MacBook Pro models. The company may introduce M5 Pro and M5 Max chips with more flexible configurations. Buyers could get the ability to choose how many CPU and GPU cores they want.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported that the next MacBook Pro may launch alongside macOS 26.3. That update is expected between February and March. If that timeline holds, the new configurator could support more advanced hardware options.
