A Karachi court has issued a bailable arrest warrant against Dawlance CEO Umar Ahsan Khan for failing to comply with a consumer protection ruling on a refrigerator.
The Consumer Protection Court ordered Dawlance to replace the faulty refrigerator of customer Ali Raza and imposed a total fine of Rs. 40,000 on the company.
Dawlance refused to comply with the ruling of court, prompting the judge to direct Civil Lines Police Station to execute the arrest warrant by the May 07.
Ali Raza purchased a Dawlance refrigerator on December 03, 2021 from a local dealer, with the product carrying a claimed twelve-year warranty at the time.
The appliance stopped functioning on January 8, 2024, just over two years after purchase, prompting Raza to contact Dawlance to claim his warranty and get a replacement.
A Dawlance representative reportedly told Raza the product carried only a one-year warranty and demanded Rs. 9,900 as payment for the required repairs.
Raza contested this claim before the Consumer Protection Court, which reviewed all documents and evidence presented by both parties before issuing its final ruling.
The court ruled entirely in favour of the customer, ordering Dawlance to provide a brand new refrigerator and pay the total fine of Rs. 40,000 immediately.
The alleged refusal of Dawlance to comply with the ruling elevated the matter, causing the court to escalate its enforcement by issuing the bailable arrest warrant against the CEO.
