Set your sights on the horizon, pirates. A new report says the long-awaited Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake is, in fact, only a few months out. Ubisoft may be keeping its lips sealed, but the latest leaks hint that the return of the franchise’s most beloved pirate adventure is approaching far faster than anyone expected.
Ubisoft recently revealed its latest financial results. The company laid out a slate of games arriving before the end of its current financial year on March 31, 2026. Crucially, one title remained “unannounced” in the official presentation. Now, a report from Insider Gaming states that this mysterious project is the new version of Black Flag. Consequently, the game is reportedly scheduled to launch during the week of March 23, 2026.
Ubisoft Singapore is reportedly spearheading the project. This studio previously launched Skull and Bones, which actually began as an offshoot of Black Flag’s maritime gameplay.
According to the report, the remake features significant visual and gameplay upgrades. These improvements aim to bring the title closer to Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ level of fidelity. Furthermore, the game will adopt a more RPG-like focus.
Excitingly, the report details plans for all-new content and missions for the iconic pirate hero, Edward Kenway. However, there is a catch. The original game’s modern-day gameplay sections have apparently been excised. This is a decision that many fans are already unhappy about.
Ubisoft is currently going all-in on its biggest franchise. The recent financial results noted a “strong performance” for the series. Assassin’s Creed Mirage has now passed 10 million sales and recently received a Saudi Arabia-funded free update.
Looking ahead, next year is expected to bring a second major expansion for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Beyond that, Ubisoft has announced that a multiplayer game and the witchcraft-themed Assassin’s Creed Hexe are also in the works.
Despite years of internal leaks, fan speculation, and hints from the lead actor, Ubisoft has still not officially confirmed that the Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake exists. However, players continue to track its progress, and expectations are certainly high.
