The Balochistan Education Department has introduced a supplementary examination for grade 8 students, starting from the academic year 2026, as part of efforts to modernise the education system and raise academic standards.
According to a notification issued by the Directorate of Education Schools, the newly introduced Supplementary Middle Standardized Examination will be conducted by the Balochistan Assessment and Examination Commission every year during the first week of March.
The exam will be available to students who fail papers in the annual Middle Standardized Examination.
Under the new policy, students who fail the annual exam will be granted conditional and provisional admission to grade 9. However, permanent admission will depend on passing the Supplementary Middle Standardized Examination.
The Education Department stated that the initiative aims to facilitate students, reduce dropout rates, and prevent the loss of an academic year for those who do not clear their exams on the first attempt.
In a separate development, the Balochistan government has abolished the Saturday holiday in all public schools, making Sunday the only weekly holiday.
Under the new schedule, government schools across the province will remain open from Monday to Saturday following a notification issued by the Education Department.
