The Balochistan government has suspended mobile internet and data services across all 36 districts from November 10 to 16, citing heightened security concerns. The move comes alongside a temporary restriction on travel along the Loralai section of National Highway N-70, effective until November 14.
Balochistan has faced increasing security challenges in recent months, with insurgent groups escalating attacks. The provincial authorities have previously imposed short-term internet shutdowns in Quetta, including a 24-hour suspension on October 31.
According to the provincial Home Department, the suspension affects rural areas across the province, while Quetta district remains largely exempt, though residents have reported weak or missing signals in some parts. Transport services, including taxis and private vehicles along the Loralai stretch, are temporarily halted, while essential local travel is permitted.
In addition, schools and colleges in Quetta Cantonment remain closed from November 12 to 16 as a precautionary measure, though some government schools outside the cantonment continue to operate.
Officials emphasized that district administrations, police, and relevant agencies are enforcing restrictions and arranging alternative measures to minimize public inconvenience. Citizens have been advised to follow official travel advisories before using the Loralai route.
“These measures are necessary to ensure public safety and maintain order amid security threats,” said a provincial spokesperson.
The authorities urge residents to stay informed and cooperate with security guidelines while the restrictions remain in effect.
