The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued a public advisory urging citizens to safeguard their Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) and personal information against misuse.
In a message shared on social media, NADRA instructed citizens not to hand over their CNICs as collateral to anyone and not to accept another persons CNIC as security for any transaction.
The authority also advised against making unnecessary photocopies of identity cards. Where a photocopy could not be avoided, NADRA said citizens should clearly write down the purpose for which it was being shared and destroy the copy once that purpose had been fulfilled.
NADRA further cautioned the public to remain alert to fraudulent attempts to obtain personal information through fake phone calls, text messages and social media messages.
