The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has launched a two-day audit of Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) ground handling services at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.
CAA inspectors are examining multiple sections of the airline’s operations at the airport, including passenger check-in procedures and the responsiveness of PIA staff to travellers.
The audit is part of a broader regulatory review, with similar inspections already completed at the Islamabad and Lahore airports. The CAA conducts these audits periodically to ensure PIA’s compliance with the standards required for its international flight operations.
Last week, the Ministry of Defence told the National Assembly that federal government revoked the licences of 50 pilots and suspended 33 others under the Civil Aviation Rules, 1994.
In a written reply submitted during Question Hour, the ministry said the action followed international scrutiny of Pakistani pilots’ credentials after allegations of fake licences surfaced.
The controversy prompted the UK, the EU and the US to bar PIA from operating flights to their airspace, cutting the airline off from some of its most lucrative international routes.
