CCD Empowered by Punjab to Crack Down on Online Fraudsters

The Punjab government has officially empowered the Crime Control Department (CCD) to take strict action against online fraudsters. This decision aims to curb the rising menace of digital looting.

Previously, the CCD focused on dacoits, robbers, and drug smugglers. Now, the department will also target criminals who use online or electronic devices to loot citizens. The government made this decision following an extraordinary increase in looting incidents. Innocent people are continually losing their lifelong savings to these scams.

These criminal elements specifically target salaried individuals and businessmen. Moreover, they do not spare recipients of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). Consequently, these gangs have minted billions of rupees through these illicit practices.

Additionally, sources indicate these groups are involved in short-term kidnappings. However, authorities often do not register cases for these specific crimes. To dismantle these networks, the government has authorised the attachment of properties. Authorities will now seize the assets of individuals associated with these organised criminal gangs.
