The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced plans to construct a 9-kilometer service road along the Islamabad Expressway, stretching from Faizabad Interchange to Gulberg Greens. The project aims to ease traffic congestion and provide commuters with an alternative route on one of the capital’s busiest highways.
The new service road will pass through densely populated areas including Soan, Pindorian, Shakrial, Garden Town, Khanna, Kangal, Ghouri Town, and Korral. Officials said the construction will be done in phases, with the first section covering Faizabad to Gulberg Greens. Eventually, the road will extend to Rawat, creating a continuous alternate corridor along the expressway.
Traffic congestion on the Islamabad Expressway has been a longstanding issue, especially during peak hours, affecting daily commuters and commercial traffic alike. Rapid urban expansion along the expressway has further increased the strain on the main highway, making an alternate route a much-needed solution.
CDA authorities said the service road will not only reduce travel time but also improve traffic flow and connectivity for residents and businesses in the surrounding sectors. The initiative is part of a broader effort by the authority to upgrade road infrastructure and address congestion in the capital.
