The deadline for applications under the Chief Minister Punjab’s E-Taxi Scheme 2025 has officially ended, and thousands of applicants are now awaiting the announcement of the e-balloting date. The scheme, a major step toward eco-friendly transport, aims to boost the province’s green agenda while creating job opportunities particularly for women.
Launched to support sustainable ride-hailing and employment, the e-taxi program offers interest-free loans with a zero-percent markup, enabling both individual riders and fleet owners to purchase electric vehicles. According to the Punjab government, riders can borrow up to Rs4.55 million, while ride-hailing firms and fleet owners can access up to Rs1 billion in financing.
Loan repayment is structured over 57 equal monthly installments, with a three-month grace period before payments begin. This flexible plan gives borrowers time to launch their operations effectively. A special quota for women has also been included to promote inclusivity in the transport sector.
Officials confirmed that if the number of applications exceeds available vehicles, the selection process will be conducted through e-balloting to ensure fairness and transparency. However, no official date for the balloting has yet been announced.
“The e-taxi initiative represents Punjab’s commitment to cleaner mobility, women empowerment, and sustainable urban growth,” a government spokesperson stated.
