Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched a new campaign in Punjab to deliver insulin to children with type-1 diabetes in their homes.
Speaking at a special session of the health sector on Friday she said, “Special cards will be made to ensure the supply of insulin to sick children.”
The chief minister explained that a government-approved company would be responsible for the supply of insulin, which would be delivered while following the cold chain and other standard operating procedures.
This project will be first launched in three districts of Punjab, including Lahore, where type-1 diabetes patients can apply for insulin delivery through an application or call a helpline.
The Punjab government plans to launch the “CM’s Insulin Program”, and the implementation of cold chain management and standard operating procedures. During the first phase, the initiative will be piloted in three districts to enable type-1 diabetes patients to order insulin through the app or the helpline.
In her remarks, CM Maryam pointed out that the initiative’s main aim was to enhance children’s health care. She also agreed to the formulation of a performance management framework and the set of indicators to consider when measuring the performance of staff in healthcare. Further, laboratories will be developed in hospitals of Mianwali, Jhang, Layyah, Attock, and Jhelum.
To enhance healthcare facilities in remote areas, she ordered the rebranding of basic health units (BHUs) as “Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics.”
The announcement was made on ‘International Girls’ Day, during which she emphasized, “Girls’ courage, determination, and ability can change the world. Go ahead; we are with you. Our daughters, sisters, and girls are the future of our nation.” She asserted that it is a right and also a national responsibility to foster the dreams and the talents of girls.
She said the Punjab government has devised a strategic plan for the safety, education, health, and well-being of girls and women. These include e-bikes, virtual police stations, pink buttons, pink games, and scholarship programs for the daughters of the nation.
“The journey to provide a safe environment, quality education, and financial independence to the daughters of Punjab is in progress,” she concluded.
