Communications Minister Orders Overhaul of PLIC Operations

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the performance of the Postal Life Insurance Company (PLIC). During a high-level review meeting, he called for a comprehensive business plan to improve the organization’s revenue generation, operational efficiency, and public credibility.
The Federal Minister emphasized that it is unsustainable for any institution to operate with expenditures exceeding its income—an issue currently facing PLIC. He stressed the urgent need to eliminate corruption and inefficiency in public sector entities, particularly within the insurance sector.
Khan directed the organization to immediately clear all outstanding insurance claims and present a restructured roadmap to address ongoing shortcomings. He also highlighted the importance of administrative and structural reforms to help PLIC adapt to modern-day challenges and restore its financial health.
“Government funds will not be allowed to go to waste under any circumstances,” stated Abdul Aleem Khan. “Public sector organizations like the Postal Life Insurance Company must shift from relying on government grants to enhancing their own resources and revenue streams.”
He further urged officials to adopt a results-driven approach aligned with contemporary standards, improve internal operations, and reduce dependency on excessive human resources. Khan noted that for PLIC to compete effectively with private sector insurers, it must demonstrate stronger profitability and a leaner operational model.
During the session, the Federal Secretary for Communications and the Director General of Pakistan Post briefed the minister on the key financial and operational challenges facing PLIC. It was agreed that the Finance Division will be formally approached to assist in resolving the company’s fiscal issues.
A follow-up meeting is scheduled within a week to evaluate the newly proposed business plan and track the company’s progress in implementing reforms.
