Courier companies across Pakistan have increased their delivery charges by 17% following the recent surge in fuel prices, a move that is expected to affect online sellers and customers alike. The adjustment comes as logistics firms struggle to absorb rising transport costs after one of the sharpest petroleum price hikes in recent years.
The increase in courier rates follows the government’s decision to raise petroleum prices by Rs. 55 per litre, which took effect on March 6. The revision pushed petrol prices from Rs. 266.17 to Rs. 321.17 per litre, while high-speed diesel climbed from Rs. 280.86 to Rs. 335.86 per litre.
Courier companies say the steep jump in fuel costs has significantly increased their operating expenses, particularly for delivery fleets that depend heavily on diesel. With vehicles running long distances every day to deliver parcels across cities and remote areas, fuel remains one of the largest costs for the logistics industry.
The courier sector has grown rapidly in recent years, largely due to the expansion of e-commerce and online businesses. Thousands of small and medium-sized sellers depend on third-party courier companies to deliver their products to customers across the country.
