Pakistan Customs has seized gold jewellery and high-end luxury items worth Rs. 58 million from a passenger arriving at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, in a major crackdown on smuggling at the country’s busiest airport.
According to officials, Customs staff intercepted a passenger arriving from the United States at the international arrivals lounge. Upon inspection, authorities recovered 1,185 grams of gold jewellery along with a commercial quantity of cosmetics, perfumes, and branded handbags concealed in the passenger’s luggage.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) confirmed that the confiscated goods were taken into custody, while an FIR was registered under the Customs Act, 1969. Investigations are currently underway to determine whether the smuggling attempt was part of a larger network.
An FBR spokesperson said, “Pakistan Customs remains committed to curbing smuggling and ensuring strict enforcement of customs laws at all entry points to protect national revenue.”
In recent months, Pakistan Customs has intensified surveillance at airports following repeated attempts to smuggle gold, foreign currency, and luxury goods into the country. Authorities say such actions not only violate customs regulations but also cause significant losses to the national exchequer.
Officials added that vigilance at airports and border crossings has been further strengthened to deter illegal trade and safeguard economic interests.
