Blizzard just shattered expectations during the Diablo 30th Anniversary Spotlight. For the first time in nearly 25 years, Diablo 2 is receiving fresh content. The “Reign of the Warlock” DLC is now live. This update introduces the Warlock class to Diablo 2: Resurrected, Diablo Immortal, and the upcoming Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred expansion.
The Warlock makes its franchise debut today. This sinister class utilises ancient Vizjerei texts to command demonic forces. Unlike the Paladin’s holy light, Warlocks summon Goatmen, Tainted, and Defilers to do their bidding.
The gameplay mechanics offer deep strategy. Players can bind enemy demons to steal their unique skills. Furthermore, Warlocks can devour demons to gain specific stat buffs.
Beyond the new class, the DLC introduces “Enhanced Terror Zones”. These zones feature difficult versions of all Acts and new enemies called Heralds of Terror. Players who conquer these zones on Hell difficulty can challenge the “Colossal Ancients” boss. This requires combining statues in the Horadric Cube. Additionally, Blizzard added highly requested quality-of-life features. These include a built-in Loot Filter, stackable items in stash tabs, and a “Chronicle” to track item drops.
The Warlock arrives in Diablo 4 when the Lord of Hatred expansion launches this April. This follows the recent reveal of the Paladin class at The Game Awards 2025.
The expansion expands the world of Sanctuary significantly. Players will explore the region of Skovos for the first time in series history. New endgame content called “War Plans” will reward players for various activities. Moreover, Blizzard is overhauling the skill tree to increase customisation. Other notable additions include Talismans, the Horadric Cube, a Loot Filter, and a new Fishing mechanic.
Diablo Immortal joins the celebration in Summer 2026. The Warlock will enter the roster with a kit focused on the “Soulgorger” ability. This update also includes a dedicated Warlock origin quest. Furthermore, players will return to Lut Gholein, a classic location from Diablo 2.
The “Reign of the Warlock” DLC is currently available for Diablo 2: Resurrected on Battle.net, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. This shadow-drop marks a massive milestone for the franchise’s 30th anniversary. It bridges the gap between the 2000 classic and the modern era of ARPGs.
