Discord has confirmed a major data breach that exposed government ID photos, credit card details, and personal information of around 70,000 users. The company revealed that hackers gained access through a third-party customer support vendor, compromising sensitive data like names, emails, IPs, and the last four digits of credit cards.

According to Discord’s official statement,

“An unauthorized party targeted our third-party customer support services to access user data, with a view to extort a financial ransom from Discord.”

The platform has begun notifying affected users via email and advised them to remain vigilant against phishing attempts. A spokesperson added that the leaked government ID photos were part of Discord’s age verification process.

This incident has reignited debate over mandatory ID verification laws and the risk of data misuse by digital platforms.
