Dota 2 x Monster Hunter: Crossover Brings Free Cosmetic Sets

Valve and Capcom have teamed up for a new Dota 2 and Monster Hunter crossover, surprising many players. The event adds free Monster Hunter–themed items to the game. However, the community sees it as a mixed update, especially with expectations for a major patch growing. As of 11th November, the mood is divided.

Six Free Monster Hunter Cosmetic Sets

The event introduces six Monster Hunter cosmetic sets. All of them are free. Players can unlock them by crafting. They must collect materials by hunting heroes in matches. Frequent players should be able to craft the full collection without much trouble.

The update also adds a Palico courier with craftable costumes. A Poogie with craftable outfits joins the game as well. It acts like a pet in the base throughout the match. These additions offer fun cross-universe fan service for Monster Hunter and Dota fans alike.

Some Items Locked Behind a Paid Pass

While most items are free, a few variants and cosmetic pieces require a paid pass. The majority of the event, however, remains accessible without payment.

The crossover will run for three months. This duration creates concerns. Many players believe it could mean no Frostivus event this year. Frostivus usually arrives during the holiday period and offers free cosmetics. Running two long free-item events at the same time seems unlikely, making a Frostivus cancellation a strong possibility.

Dota 2 Community Still Wants a Major Patch

The Dota 2 community has been waiting for a big patch. There has been no major event since Crownfall ended. There has also been no major patch since TI. Usually, the game receives balance updates shortly after the biggest tournament of the year. Because of that, expectations have been rising for weeks.

As a result, the new crossover feels underwhelming for players hoping for core gameplay changes. The author notes that they are not a Monster Hunter fan, making the update even less exciting on a personal level.

Still, the event launched on a Monday. This timing gives a small hope that a patch could drop later in the week. Yet it reportedly seems very unlikely.
