E-Gates to Be Installed at 3 Major Airports in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: In a major step toward modernizing airport security and streamlining passenger flow, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has launched a project to install e-gates at three of the country’s busiest airports: Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi.
The initiative was officially kicked off during a high-level ceremony at the PAA headquarters, attended by a delegation from M2P Consulting, an international firm known for its expertise in airport systems.
The agreement was signed by Christophe Mostert, Managing Partner at M2P Consulting, and Kashif S. Jillani, Director of Engineering Services at PAA. The officials in attendance included Deputy Director General Airports Sadiq ur Rehman and Deputy Director General Works and Development Sumair Saeed.
A 24-month execution plan will be implemented to develop advanced e-gate systems engineering services, which will encompass planning, design, installation, and implementation. Following the competitive selection of qualified service providers, M2P Consulting serves as the technical superintendent for contractors during the implementation phase.
The team will commence the assessment at Karachi International Airport tomorrow after conducting surveys at Islamabad and Lahore airports.
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards are integrated with area airport systems to operate the e-gates. The system’s operation will lead to security improvements, while automated biometric identity checks and processes will reduce the need for manual actions, thereby facilitating faster travel procedures for passengers.
Senior officials from PAA’s Planning, Development, and Engineering Services departments were also present at the launch, highlighting the project’s importance in transforming Pakistan’s airport infrastructure.
