The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved the immediate release of Rs 19 billion for the Prime Minister’s Ramadan Relief Package (PMRRP) 2026, aimed at providing financial assistance to low-income families during the holy month.
The meeting, chaired remotely by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, reviewed a summary from the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety seeking Rs 25 billion for the package. The Finance Division informed the committee that Rs 19 billion had already been allocated in the current fiscal year, with any additional funds to be released later based on need and fiscal space.
The ECC granted in-principle approval of Rs 1 billion for operational expenses, subject to a detailed cost breakdown. These costs include payments to partner financial institutions and outreach and communication activities. The committee stressed strict compliance with financial rules and transparency in spending.
The committee also regularized steps already taken to start payments through re-appropriated funds, underscoring the urgency of delivering relief before Ramzan. Any unspent funds will be returned under standard procedures.
The Ramadan Relief Package 2026 will provide one-time cash support to vulnerable households identified through the National Socio-Economic Registry (NSER). Funds will be disbursed directly through banking and digital channels to ensure transparency and efficient delivery.
The ECC reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing timely support to deserving families during Ramadan while maintaining fiscal discipline and oversight.
