Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, Nadeem Mahbub, has adopted a non-formal education school under the “Support a Non-Formal Education (NFE) School” initiative, aiming to enhance learning opportunities in underserved areas near Islamabad.
The Secretary visited a Basic Education Community School (BECS) in the village of Kilinger, accompanied by Director General BECS, Hameed Khan Niazi. During the visit, he was briefed on enrollment, academic progress, and challenges faced by the school. BECS schools, often one room community centers run by a single teacher, provide free, certificate based education up to Class 5, along with accelerated learning programs for older learners.
Nadeem Mahbub praised the school’s role in educating children who cannot attend formal schools. Under the ministry’s NFE Support Packages, adopted schools receive stationery, workbooks, teaching aids, hygiene supplies, and other essential classroom materials. Donors are kept informed about school updates and the impact of their contributions.
“The combined support of institutions and individuals can significantly uplift learning outcomes for children in non-formal schools,” the Secretary said, highlighting the importance of community driven education initiatives.
