An awareness campaign has been launched across educational institutions to educate students about the harmful effects of vaping and other nicotine-based products, amid growing concerns over rising nicotine use among young people.
As part of the initiative, the Drug Advisory Training Hub organized a one-day awareness session for students from various universities, focusing on the health risks associated with vaping, nicotine pouches, cigarettes, and similar products.
Speaking during the session, anti-drug campaign consultant Syed Zulfiqar Hussain said demand for vaping among young people has increased by around 20%.
He noted that the global market for vapes, cigarettes, and nicotine pouches continues to expand, exposing more young people to the risk of nicotine addiction.
According to Hussain, many students begin using these products while coping with academic pressure and examination-related stress. What often starts as occasional use can gradually develop into regular dependence.
Hussain urged universities to establish dedicated student counseling centers to provide mental health support and professional guidance.
He said such facilities could help students manage stress in healthier ways, make informed decisions, and reduce the likelihood of developing addictive behaviors.
At the conclusion of the session, participants were informed about the health risks linked to vaping and nicotine products, practical strategies to avoid nicotine use, and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The campaign aims to raise awareness among students and encourage educational institutions to play a greater role in preventing nicotine addiction and promoting student well-being.
