Punjab To Launch Vehicle Emissions Testing Program On Motorways

The Punjab government has provided relief to vehicle owners by extending the validity of green emission stickers, effectively allowing many cars to remain exempt from fresh emission tests for several more months. The decision aims to ensure smooth compliance with environmental regulations while easing pressure on motorists.

According to a public notice issued by the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Punjab, green emission stickers that were set to expire on December 31, 2025, will now remain valid until June 30, 2026. This extension applies only to stickers that have already been issued, meaning vehicles holding valid green stickers will not require immediate re-testing during this period.

The extension follows the Punjab Environment Protection and Climate Change Department’s earlier move to fully operationalize Emissions Testing System (ETS) booths and authorized workshops across Lahore. The emissions testing initiative was launched to curb rising air pollution and ensure vehicles meet environmental standards before being allowed on roads.

ETS booths are currently operational from Monday to Saturday between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with a scheduled break from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Testing services are available at multiple locations across Lahore, including major commercial areas, residential zones, and Ring Road access points. In addition, authorized automobile workshops of Toyota, Suzuki, Honda, and other manufacturers are also offering emission testing services.

Officials say the extension will help manage crowds at testing centers while maintaining environmental oversight. An EPA official stated that the government remains committed to improving air quality but wants to ensure a smooth and organized implementation of the emissions testing system.
