The provincial government of Sindh has launched facial recognition attendance for teachers in government schools, starting with a pilot phase in six districts.
The School Education Department Sindh introduced the Facial Recognition Attendance Monitoring and Evaluation System on Monday to digitally track attendance of teaching and non-teaching staff.
The pilot covers Karachi East, Hyderabad, Naushahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Ghotki and Umerkot, and will monitor the attendance of 49,565 teaching and non-teaching employees.
Officials said teachers can mark their attendance using the app on any mobile phone, and the system will allow attendance to be recorded even without internet access.
Once connectivity is restored, the record will update automatically. Teachers are required to log both their arrival at and departure from school through the system, and can view their attendance history within the app.
The app also allows teachers to download monthly attendance records and submit leave requests online. Administrative officers, school heads and teachers have already completed training on using the application ahead of the rollout.
