The Interior Ministry has directed chief secretaries and inspectors general of police to take action against those issuing counterfeit no-objection certificates (NOCs) and permits for tinted vehicle windows in the ministry’s name.
Ministry sources said the fake documents came to light after it emerged that NOCs and permits were being issued under the ministry’s authority. The ministry has not issued any NOC for tinted glass since March 31, 2013, when a ban on such permits came into force.
Separately, the ministry has drafted a new policy on the use of tinted windows on the directive of a Senate committee. The draft under consideration proposes allowing permits on medical and security grounds.
The revised draft has been sent to relevant stakeholders for their suggestions. The policy will be finalised once their feedback is received.
