Federal Government Rental Ceiling Raised by 85pc for Employees
The Ministry of Housing and Works has announced an 85 percent increase in the federal government rental ceiling, a move that took effect from November 1, 2025.
According to the notification issued on Tuesday, employees will continue receiving the ceiling amount through their respective departments. Many staff members have long argued that the process is difficult and have urged the authorities to make the ceiling amount part of their regular salary instead of requiring approvals from multiple offices.
Employees noted that delays in releasing the amount often caused financial stress. While appreciating the Housing Ministry for approving the 85 percent increase in the federal government rental ceiling, they reiterated their demand to integrate the allowance into their monthly pay for convenience and transparency.
Federal Government Heads Association President Fazal i Mola said workers welcomed the revised rates but still hoped for structural changes. He explained that there are three categories of government staff: those who use the ceiling fund, those living in official residences and those who receive house rent within their salaries.
He added that employees without access to government owned accommodation and currently receiving house rent in their salaries should be given a revised amount that corresponds to their current basic pay.
