Five Pia Crew Members Arrested For Smuggling Iphones At Multan Airport

In a recent operation at Multan airport, five crew members of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) were arrested for attempting to smuggle 78 iPhones aboard flight PK-222 from Dubai. The smuggling attempt was uncovered when customs officials intercepted two female flight attendants concealing 24 iPhones.

As the investigation advanced, the flight attendants disclosed the identities of several male colleagues, resulting in the retrieval of an additional 54 devices from their possession. Sources within the management of PIA, speaking under the condition of privacy, have verified that disciplinary actions will be initiated against all crew members implicated.

The discovery not only underscores persistent security concerns at international terminals but also inflicts significant damage to the corporate image of PIA, as the national carrier strives to uphold its reputation within the competitive aviation industry. The participation of numerous crew members indicates a concerted effort rather than a singular occurrence.

PIA’s crew has a history of being involved in phone smuggling incidents in Pakistan. In a significant operation at Lahore’s international airport in October last year, customs officials successfully intercepted smuggled mobile phones valued at over Rs 16.7 million during two separate actions. This led to several arrests, including that of a flight attendant from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

Nadia Batool, an air hostess for PIA on flight PK-204 from Dubai, was caught with 30 iPhones hidden on her body and in her luggage. The confiscated devices had an estimated worth of Rs. 11.2 million. In a recent incident, travelers Muhammad Arshad and Fariha Amin were apprehended while trying to smuggle mobile phones valued at Rs 5.5 million in their luggage.
