A female student at Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) has died after falling from the fourth floor of the university’s government hostel on Tuesday night.
Fellow students discovered the victim in a pool of blood and immediately alerted college management. The student, a resident of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), sustained critical injuries, including multiple head and neck trauma and bone fractures.
Staff rushed her to the attached Sir Ganga Ram Hospital emergency ward. Following an initial assessment, a team of senior doctors performed major neurosurgery. However, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after.
Eyewitnesses and sources within the institute claim the student jumped from the building in an attempt to end her life. Currently, no immediate reason for this extreme step is available. This incident follows a concerning trend, as two students from a private university in Raiwind recently jumped from buildings in separate incidents.
FJMU Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal disputes the suicide narrative. He stated that the student fell from the building accidentally.
To investigate the matter, the administration has constituted a medical board and a five-member fact-finding panel. Prof Bilquis Shabbir, the Dean of Undergraduates, leads the committee. The Vice Chancellor has directed the panel to submit a comprehensive report within 24 hours.
