Former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Umer Atta Bandial, has reported that his WhatsApp account was hacked, with the intruder attempting to demand money through the messaging platform.
According to sources, the hacker gained unauthorized access to the account and began sending messages to contacts, seeking financial transactions. Following the incident, Umer Atta Bandial immediately contacted the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to report the breach and initiate an investigation.
Officials at NCCIA have said that cybercrime teams are investigating the matter and have advised individuals not to comply with any suspicious financial requests received from the compromised account.
The hacking of Chief Justice Bandial’s account highlights a growing trend over cybersecurity threats targeting high-profile public figures and emphasizes the need for robust digital security measures. Experts note that fraudsters are increasingly exploiting unsecured accounts to demand ransoms or sensitive information, emphasizing the importance of two-factor authentication, regular password updates, and cautious online behavior to protect personal and professional communications.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious about messages requesting money or sensitive information, even when received from known contacts, as hackers can exploit compromised accounts.
