The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has launched Pakistan’s first homegrown Index of Transparency and Accountability (iTAP), providing a benchmark to assess citizen trust in public institutions and promote data-driven governance reforms.
Unveiled at FPCCI Capital House in Islamabad, the survey was developed in collaboration with Ipsos and attended by Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal, FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh, and other senior officials.
FPCCI said the index was conceived in May 2025 and conducted between December 2025 and January 2026 to ensure nationally representative, up-to-date insights.
“These principles form the foundation of good governance and are essential for citizen satisfaction, a business-friendly environment, and sustainable economic development,” said Minister Ahsan Iqbal at the launch.
The survey establishes a baseline for governance reform, showing that while public perception often skews negative, the majority of citizen interactions with public institutions are reported to be corruption-free.
FPCCI emphasized the importance of:
- Strengthening transparency in government
- Addressing public awareness gaps
- Improving communication around institutional reforms
The index is intended to track governance performance over time, offering policymakers a powerful tool to monitor reforms and build public trust.
FPCCI officials highlighted that consistent measurement of transparency and accountability can improve investment outlook, enhance public trust, and provide an objective national benchmark for institutional performance.
The iTAP survey marks a significant step toward data-driven policymaking in Pakistan, encouraging the private sector, civil society, and government to work together in improving governance standards.
