The free Wi-Fi facility at Lahore Railway Station has reportedly been suspended after railway authorities allegedly failed to clear payments to the internet service provider. The disruption has left passengers without a service that was introduced to improve travel convenience at one of the country’s busiest transport hubs.
Sources claim that the private company responsible for installing and managing the Wi-Fi infrastructure withdrew its equipment due to outstanding dues. Devices previously installed at the station’s main entrance and on platforms two and four have reportedly been removed.
Despite the suspension, QR codes and promotional banners advertising the free internet service remain displayed across the premises. Many commuters continue attempting to connect, only to find that the network is inactive. Passengers have described the situation as confusing and frustrating.
The free Wi-Fi project was launched under the direction of Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi as part of broader efforts by Pakistan Railways to modernize facilities at major railway stations, including Lahore and Karachi. The move was aimed at providing complimentary internet access to passengers, particularly during long waiting times and train delays.
Travelers have urged authorities to either restore the service immediately or remove outdated promotional material to prevent further inconvenience. Officials have yet to issue an official statement regarding the restoration timeline.
