Germany is looking to strengthen its business and economic relationship with Pakistan, with German Ambassador Ina Lepel reaffirming interest in expanding cooperation between German companies and Pakistani businesses.
Lepel expressed these views during a meeting with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Tuesday. She also congratulated Pakistan on its recent sovereign credit rating upgrade by Moody’s.
The German ambassador said the improved credit rating reflected greater confidence in Pakistan’s economic outlook and reform efforts.
She also appreciated the country’s economic progress despite ongoing regional geopolitical challenges.
Aurangzeb, meanwhile, highlighted improvements in Pakistan’s foreign exchange buffers and the government’s efforts to maintain fiscal discipline.
He said the government remains focused on sustaining economic stability, implementing structural reforms, and creating a more favorable environment for investment and business activity.
The two sides discussed German multinational companies already operating in Pakistan and explored opportunities to expand bilateral business cooperation.
Aurangzeb emphasized the importance of policy continuity, simplified business processes, and institutional reforms to attract greater foreign investment.
He also briefed Ambassador Lepel on the Federal Board of Revenue’s digitalization initiatives, noting that technology-driven reforms could improve tax administration, transparency, and efficiency.
Lepel welcomed Pakistan’s economic stabilization and reform efforts and reaffirmed Germany’s interest in strengthening bilateral economic and business ties.
She also invited Finance Minister Aurangzeb to attend the 19th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business (APK), scheduled to take place in Seoul later this year.
The engagement highlights growing interest in expanding trade, investment, and business links between Pakistan and Germany as Pakistan seeks to attract more foreign investment and strengthen its economy.
