Google Begins Rolling Out Gemini for Home in the US

Google has started rolling out its new Gemini for Home in the United States, following its announcement earlier this month. The AI-powered feature marks a major step toward integrating Gemini across smart home devices, but it comes with some important limitations.

Currently, Gemini for Home is available only through early access. Interested users in the US must manually request access before trying it out. To do this, users should head to Google Groups settings and enable the “Add me to their groups” option under Global Settings. After that, they can open the Google Home app, tap their profile picture or initials, go to Home settings, and find the early access option to submit their request.

Once approved, Gemini for Home will replace Google Assistant on compatible devices. However, this switch is permanent; users cannot revert to Google Assistant after activating Gemini. Google seems to be signaling a clear shift toward its new AI ecosystem, leaving the older Assistant platform behind.

For those subscribed to Google Home Premium, Gemini for Home also unlocks advanced features like Gemini Live and the ability to search camera history using AI.

The gradual rollout suggests that Google is testing the new assistant’s real-world performance before a wider release, making this early phase crucial for the company’s next-generation smart home ambitions.
