AI chatbots are now a regular part of daily online life. Many users rely on tools like ChatGPT, while others prefer Claude or Gemini. These systems learn from user behavior, interests, and past interactions to deliver more relevant responses. However, switching between platforms often means losing past chat history and starting again.
Google is working to remove that barrier with a new update to Gemini. The company has introduced an “import memory” feature that allows users to bring in chat history from other AI chatbots. As a result, users can continue their experience without losing context. This move makes switching between AI tools much easier.
To use this feature, users click the “Import memory in Gemini” button. After that, the system generates a prompt that must be copied into the current chatbot. Then, users copy the response and paste it into Gemini’s import tool. Once completed, the process is done, and Gemini can use that information.
This imported data helps Gemini understand user preferences better. It allows the AI to generate more accurate and personalized responses. Therefore, users can enjoy a smoother and more tailored experience across conversations.
In addition, Google offers another option for importing data. Users can export their chat history from other AI platforms. Then they can upload it directly into Gemini. The system supports ZIP files up to 5GB, which gives flexibility for large data sets.
However, there are some limits to this feature. Gemini cannot import project files or certain attachments. Even so, the update marks an important step toward better data portability in AI tools.
