Google is expanding a smart Meet feature that makes joining group calls faster and less confusing. The tool first launched in August for desktop users. It is now rolling out to Android and iOS devices as well. The company stated that the update will be distributed to users over the next two weeks.
The feature knows when you enter a conference room with other people. It then opens companion mode on your phone or tablet. This lets you join the same Meet call without causing audio feedback. As a result, meetings start with fewer delays and fewer sound issues.
Google uses your device’s microphone to make this work. It listens for ultrasonic signals inside the room. These signals confirm that you are in a shared space. After that, your device checks you into the correct group call on its own.
This automatic room check-in now works in both Google Meet and Gmail apps. On Android and iOS, you must run Meet version 336.0 to use it. Gmail users need version 2025.12.01 on Android and version 6.0.251201 on iOS.
The update is open to all Google Workspace customers. It also supports Workspace Individual subscribers. With this move, Google aims to make in-person meetings feel more connected and easier to manage.
